Wikipedia
Operates by the Wikimedia Foundation, an international non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging the growth, development & distribution of free, multilingual content, Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia to which anyone can add new entries or edit existing entries. It has more than 3,500,000 articles, including more than 1,009,000 in the English-language version. Read the special report from Nature, the international weekly journal of science, on comparing Wikipedia and Britannica's coverage of science.

The free dictionary is another Wikimedia Foundation project intended to be a free wiki dictionary (including thesaurus and lexicon) in every language. Wiktionary is a multilingual and international dictionary. The English Wiktionary has more than 110,000 entries, though surpassed by the French Wiktionary, which has more than 120,000 entries. Try to type a word in the Search field, & select the Language & see what happens.
